Objectives:

1. I recognize that we have similarities and differences but are all unique.

Method:

Identify body differences and similarities.  This can be taught by sorting flashcards of male and female body parts. Sorting similar Body parts.

Verbal or  touch identification. 

2. I am aware of my growing body and I am learning the correct names for its different parts and how they work.

This can be taught by a student verbally identifying or by touch. "Touch the arm" The student touches arm flashcard. "Touch your arm" Student touches their arm.  A doll can be used to have the student touch the arm of a doll to help with the learning.

3. I am developing my understanding of the human body and can use this knowledge to maintain and improve my wellbeing and health.

As a student learns about their body they will learn how to take care of their body. For example taking a shower, and bathing .

  Learning Intentions

The Flashcards can be used for Language Development, Identification of Body Parts. Print the program out twice to do identical matching and playing matching games. Matching is an important skill in the development of your child, matching skills are important for early math skills and language development.  Teach your child to learn about body parts , different face parts and puberty development in simple language and pictures. This program can be used in a speech development program,  identification and matching, health and puberty, learning one or multiple targets at the same time.

The program can be laminated, using velcro is an option,  to increase the longevity of the program.  Download one of our data sheets and token boards to accompany the program.

Visual Discrimination is the ability of the child to be aware of the distinctive features of forms including shape, orientation, size, and color.

Some children can have difficulty finding the subtle difference between objects.  Dr. James Partington often refers to this skill as "paying attention to fine detail."    

Not paying attention to fine detail can affect children in different ways. Some may have difficulty in reading, math, differentiating between coins, letters and numbers. For example,  bad and dad may look the same to a child.

In this program, the child sorts pictures that are not identical to each other.  Level 1 has a sorting board that is colour coded and, colour coded to the flashcard to help the child learn and master the skill. When the child is ready download level 2, to master the skill without any visual prompts.

Visual discrimination helps a child to see subtle differences between objects or pictures and to see if something matches up. This visual perceptual skill can be described as “paying attention to detail”.
