How To Wash Dishes Social Story: Pages 5

Teach your student or child how to wash dishes. This social story teaches the steps to wash dishes by hand. Learning to wash dishes is an important life skill and can be part of a Health program, life skills program and science program ( a unit on germs).

Niam learns how to wash dishes is a great way to introduce washing dishes to your student. Your student can learn from Niam. The pictures are simple and clean. The story comes with short sentences. The program comes with one sheet of visual comprehension. We have included a set of flashcards ( pictures of the story) use these to create more comprehension questions to reinforce sequencing, reading comprehension, speech development and learning a life skill. Put the flashcards  on a strip for sequencing. The flashcards can be printed out twice to play a matching game. The flashcards can be used to sequence the events, and the simple word sentences can be cut out and placed under the appropriate pictures. For higher learners, the student can write or say the instruction of the picture. Thus , the sequencing can be used as part of a reading comprehension, writing or speech program. Be creative!

Who Is Niam? Niam is a teen with Autism. He is an emerging Canadian artist with his art shown at galleries and has sold out shows. Learn with Niam. The possibilities are endless for our children.

Teaching children independent daily living skills is imperative. Studies show independent living for adults with ASD is  low with reports indicating that less than 5% live on their own. Many individuals with ASD require 24-hour care (45%) and live with their parents (45%). Reports indicate that very few adults (less than 10%) with ASD have necessary independentday-to-day household skills such as laundry, chores, and meal preparation. Able2learn has prepared easy to use data sheets that have broken the skill down in easy to follow steps.

Pair the program  with Able2learn Token Boards, Vocabulary Cards and Other Resources.
