Many children can experience anxiety when visiting a Eye Doctor. Visiting an Eye Doctor is not in the normal routine for a child. This can cause anxiety. A child may not know what to expect, it is a change from their normal routine and, they may not be familiar with the doctor or staff. The social story can be read to your child in advance. You can role play and practice different situations. Bring the social story with you on your next visit to the eye doctor and, have your child follow the steps.  Hope this helps.

    Eye doctor social story

This story takes the student step by step through the eye doctor appointment. (It remembered more parts than I did!) The Boardmaker sentences at the bottom allowed my nonreader to have success.

The text, paired with the graphic, is great for my student. This resource was easy to use and helped ease the anxiety of the visit.

The subject is an important one and this book helps children come to terms with possible anxieties and can be used as tool to strategise a way to overcome this and develop a coping plan.

    Eye Doctor Review

Thanks for the work you put into these amazing free resources. I have used several of your social stories as a basis for personalising stories for specific students with ASD. having your stories gives me guidance to ensure that I am heading in the right direction. As we are in New Zealand, things are a little different in regards to terms used so I change these words and add personal pictures which helps to make the stories personal. Thanks for your help teaching aluable social skills.
